Zusammenfassung

Postby Carionis » Fri Feb 19, 2016 4:03 pm

Also alle 2-3-4 Minuten.

Gold verdient man meistens genug.

To respond to the idea of shrines being built temporarily using orbs instead of the current system, I don't like that idea so much. I like the idea of persistent shrines, and I don't mind that they cost gems, but I fully agree with what Carionis says about experimentation being too costly. The system should be more flexible for the player, so they can try things out, then undo their decisions if they aren't satisfied with them. Kinda like runes, as Carionis pointed out.

How about this: Instead of constructing shrines with gems, you use those gems to buy / craft wardstones. In a map, you plant this wardstone on one of the shrine spots and it unfolds into its corresponding shrine. Once you revisit the map, you can pick the wardstone back up, removing the shrine, and bring it to another map, or move it to a different location on the same map.

It would probably be fair to let players only mess around with shrines in the preparation phase, before the waves start to spawn. That, combined with the loading times associated with entering maps, would probably keep players from abusing the system too much. I would imagine that at the start, when resources are scarce, people will go to the trouble of picking their wardstones up to use in different maps, but before long, they would buy extras just for the convenience of not having to do that all the time, especially for maps that are played a lot. It probably depends on the severity of the cost scaling (which I don't really have enough experience with to comment on in its current state).

As for shrines that come pre-placed on the maps, those would be locked in place until you pay the (scaling) gem cost to unearth that shrine's wardstone, at which point you could pick it up and place it like any other. This would be another incentive for players to keep buying wardstones: if you want to use a specific spot on the map for a different shrine, you have to buy the pre-built shrine first so you can remove it.

I feel that this model would remove most of the inflexibility and let players experiment and customize to their heart's content. One problem I still see is that a new player wouldn't necessarily know to prioritize buying pre-built shrines instead of building more wardstones from scratch and driving up the scaling cost. Maybe players should initially only have the ability to unearth existing shrines, and only unlock constructing additional shrines later on, after they have had time to become familiar with how the cost scaling works.

(Another unrelated thing: Don't make the game start the first wave automatically when you put down the first hero. I want to be able to put down my initial hero(es), adjust positioning if necessary, then press the 'GO' button when I'm ready.)

The voice acting and character design is really great, I have to agree with that. I also prefer to play the game in English, and the voice acting is top-notch for the most part.

My favorite hero has to be Barrows. I love his voice, his lines, and I also like him for generally being the least hammy character. Some of the other characters can be somewhat melodramatic at times, but I never have any trouble taking anything Barrows says seriously.

My second favorite is probably Sam. I still chuckle every time she says "Boomcake!" Whoever came up with that deserves a pat on the back.

My least favorite hero is probably Wylde, from a character design standpoint. I haven't really learned anything about his background from the story yet, so maybe he will grow on me, but his character concept doesn't seem all that imaginative to me. "Forcibly turned werewolf trying to cling to his humanity" is pretty much par for the course, and his growly voice bits don't seem as fun to me as those of the other characters. I still think he's well done for what you intended, though.

Jane and Jack are tied somewhere in the middle. The big mystery about Jack is what is up with Vampire Dad - otherwise he's fairly standard fare kind of like Wylde (not that this is a complaint). Jane's voice acting is really good. Her voice sounds as pretty as her in-game art - beautiful and deadly. I have this suspicion / pet theory that she will eventually turn out to be Eliza, Barrow's lost wife (transplanted into a new body, as is revealed pretty early on). It's a pretty good twist if it turns out true.

In short, you did a really great job with the characters and story and the voices. Excellent work!

(BTW, if you have a better way for hiding potential spoilers than what I did up there, let me know. I tried a [spoiler] tag first, but that didn't work...)

I like the idea of farming something in this game. You have to spend lots of diamonds until you filled every level with shrines because you dont want to move them over and over again. With the wardstones being able to set or unset them you can still vary in the early game. Being able to use the already existing ones and having to pay for unsetting them also doesn't affect the current game balancing. It's only a question about the costs I guess but the idea is very great !

THIS!
